India is a nation of youth and young energy, with nearly 65% of its population under the age of 35. With the proper guidance, opportunities, and direction, this youthful force can transform India into a global leader in technology, innovation, and development.
However, this potential can remain unrealized if the youth become directionless or disconnected from the larger purpose of nation-building. Therefore, it becomes essential to inculcate leadership qualities, awareness, and a sense of responsibility among young minds so that they can realize their fullest potential.

Arise, awaken, and strive until the highest potential is realized.
In today’s fast-changing world, India continues to face deep-rooted challenges that slow down its developmental journey. Misinformation, false narratives, and lack of awareness about governance often weaken the vision of a progressive society. Additionally, the growing gap between the skills possessed by young people and the actual needs of society is turning the demographic advantage into a potential drawback.
At the same time, the spirit of national responsibility among youth needs to be strengthened. When young individuals develop a deeper connection with the nation, it gives them purpose and motivates them to actively contribute to nation-building.
The Need for Meaningful Engagement
Modern youth are ambitious and energetic, but they also seek professional guidance, correct information, and exposure to real-world challenges. Unfortunately, the present ecosystem often fails to provide the right platforms for meaningful engagement with public life and societal issues. This gap leads to a shortage of capable leaders who possess not only professional excellence but also ethical judgment, resilience, empathy, and strategic thinking.
Understanding this need, Disha Foundation, Surat (Gujarat) launched its flagship initiative: Public Leadership Camp (PLC). The program aims to nurture leadership qualities among youth by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and awareness about governance, society, and nation-building.
The foundation works with the guiding principle of “सर्वभूत हिते रता:”, which inspires the program to cultivate leadership rooted in service to society and the welfare of all.
Holistic Leadership Development
PLC adopts a holistic approach to leadership development. It focuses not only on skill-building but also on shaping the mindset of young individuals. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and experiential learning activities, participants explore important themes such as governance, technology, economic transformation, ethical leadership, and civic responsibility.
So far, four successful editions of the Public Leadership Camp have been organized, each designed with a unique theme and structure aimed at inspiring motivation and self-discovery among participants. Previous editions have addressed important topics including technology, governance, the RTI Act, health, entrepreneurship, and cultural heritage awareness.
Impact and Reach
- 2250+ registrations recorded across all editions of the camp.
- PLC 4.0 witnessed participation from 330 students and 175 businessmen.
- Nearly 500 delegates have participated in residential immersive learning experiences.
- Participants come from diverse backgrounds such as engineering, medicine, law, and social service.
In conclusion, initiatives like the Public Leadership Camp are essential for nurturing a generation of leaders who are not only capable but also conscientious. By guiding young minds toward responsible leadership and civic participation, PLC transforms youthful energy into meaningful nation-building efforts.
